Sonny Mann here.  In Santa Rosa Beach.  Yeah, I get around.

This place is really interesting.  Santa Rosa Beach is one of the oldest beach town along 30-A. The name comes from the Santa Rosa Plantation, which was a thriving plantation north of Hwy. 98 on Hogtown Bayou in the late 1800’s. Santa Rosa Beach used to be a large center for turpentine production. The abundance of slash pine trees made it a perfect place for that business.  When that business died out in the 1940’s died out in the 1940’s papermaking became a bigger industry and the pine trees began being used for that purpose

Now you’d never know that’s what was here, because Santa Rosa Beach has become quite the vacation place.  When you come upon the first high-end condominiums and upscale shopping area, you have arrived in Santa Rosa Beach. There is a lot to do and see here; shopping and restaurants and a coffee and dessert shop, there is a roadside park called Ed Walline Park.

Santa Rosa Beach includes the historic community of Point Washington, where the Wesley Mansion, built in the 1890’s and houses the largest collection of original Louis XVI antiques resides in the beautiful Eden State Gardens. It’s also an area that’s been dedicated to the state for preservation. Topsail Hill State Preserve, located in the community of Santa Rosa, could be the state's most pristine piece of property; its beach, dunes, coastal dune lake and cypress swamp have remained nearly untouched since the first Europeans settled here five centuries ago. Santa Rosa Beach offers several entrances to Point Washington State Forest, a 15,000-acre preserve with more than 10 miles of trails. Gulf Place hosted the 2007 Seabreeze Jazz Festival at their 2-acre amphitheater as well as other outdoor events. The Santa Rosa Golf and Beach Club is nestled between the Emerald Coast's favorite attractions....the sugar-white sand beaches and thriving woodlands. It features 18 challenging golf holes that wind through the pure white sands, pristine ponds and lush vegetation of Santa Rosa Beach

Santa Rosa Beach is also near the Grayton Beach State Recreation Area, a 2,000-acre state park with rolling sea oat covered dunes and white sand beaches. This park offers visitors a glimpse of how the panhandle looked to the first European settlers. Western Lake near Santa Rosa Beach has a salt marsh Eco-system backed by Pine Flatwoods and coastal scrub. In addition, the park has rare plants and wildlife, such as the Choctawhatchee Beach Mouse. The Grayton Beach Nature Trail provides hiking opportunities, and camping and cabins are also available in the park. There are many golf courses in the Santa Rosa Beach area, several of them recognized by Golf Digest as “Best Places to Play.” Also, scenic Highway 30A has a great bike trail. Unique shops, boutiques and art galleries are scattered throughout the area, and the largest outlet mall in Florida is just ten miles away. Santa Rosa Beach is one of the gems of the “Emerald Coast,” but is less populated and more relaxing than the nearby beaches of Destin.

So, if you’re looking for a getaway that’s away from the hubbub, you should look here.  And check out the places we have to enjoy.

This is where the fun starts!
